How is this data collected?
On foot, in person, against the same fixed list of items every month — prices are read off the menu or the shelf label, excluding tip, with nothing estimated by eye.
The item list is fixed and does not change. Swap an item and the series breaks, and the chart stops meaning anything — so the same item is tracked even when it is dull.
For each item the minimum, median and maximum are recorded, together with how many venues were checked. The median leads: a handful of seafront places drag an average somewhere no visitor will ever pay.
A bucket built on only a few venues is marked as a small sample and should not be quoted as a city-wide price. "Checked at 3 venues" is more honest than something that looks like statistics.
Accommodation prices come from a separate source — a daily crawl of public listings for fixed dates. It has its own page and its own methodology.
The raw data lives in git as a JSON file and every round stays in the history. Nothing is overwritten: a wrong number is corrected with a new entry, not with an eraser.

- First survey round over the fixed list: espresso, 500 ml beer, 500 ml water, doner, canteen lunch, dinner for two, grilled fish, bus ticket, taxi (flag-drop and per km), sunbed.
- At least 12 venues across four districts, so the median means something.
- Arena Burgas ticket price — goes into the list as soon as it is announced.
