Has Bulgaria ever won Eurovision?

Yes, once: in Vienna in 2026, with DARA’s “Bangaranga”, which scored 516 points in the final. According to the EBU it finished 173 points ahead of second place, the biggest winning margin in the contest’s history so far.

Before the win, its highest place was 2nd: in Kyiv in 2017, with Kristian Kostov’s “Beautiful Mess”.

Which years did Bulgaria not take part?

Since its debut in 2005, Bulgaria has not taken part in 6 contests: 2014, 2015, 2019 and 2023–2025. In 2020 it was due to compete with VICTORIA’s “Tears Getting Sober”, but the contest was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We give no reason: the EBU does not state one, and the notes on this page come only from the EBU.

Where does this data come from?

From the EBU’s table of Bulgaria’s entries on eurovision.com: we checked every row against it on 29 September 2026. We did not measure these numbers; they are the results the EBU publishes, and this page is independent of the EBU.

The EBU counts 16 participations because it includes 2020, when the contest was cancelled. We count 15 contests: the ones in which Bulgaria went on stage.

The notes on 2012 and 2020, and the 173-point margin in 2026, come from the EBU article “A history of Bulgaria at the Eurovision Song Contest”, published on 3 June 2026.

Artist names and song titles are spelled letter for letter as in the EBU’s table.

This page covers the Eurovision Song Contest only, not Junior Eurovision.
